For charities and non-profits
Your data has answers
Data4Good is a UK social enterprise that gives charities pro bono data support. Skilled volunteers, closely supervised, help you understand your data and use it to make better decisions.
The problems we hear most
-
“We collect data but never look at it”
Forms get filled in and spreadsheets grow, but nobody has the time to ask what it all means.
-
“Funders want evidence of impact”
You know your work makes a difference. Showing it with numbers is a different skill.
-
“Our records are a mess”
Duplicates, gaps and five versions of the same spreadsheet. It slows everyone down.
-
“We cannot afford an analyst”
Specialist help is out of reach when every pound is already spoken for.
-
“We do not know where to start”
You have a hunch that data could help, but turning that into a clear question feels daunting.
Three ways to work with us
Choose the shape that fits your question. If you are not sure which one that is, tell us what you are trying to understand and we will suggest one.
-
One-off project
A supervised volunteer team works on a single, well-defined question and hands over the findings, files and a walkthrough.
Best for: an impact report, a dashboard, or a data clean-up.
-
Ongoing support
A steady relationship with volunteers who get to know your charity and help you keep learning from your data over time.
Best for: charities with regular reporting needs or changing questions.
-
Data challenge
We run a hackathon or data challenge on your problem. Many volunteers explore it together over a short, focused burst.
Best for: open-ended questions where fresh ideas help.
From first chat to handover
-
Tell us your question
Fill in the short form below. Plain English is fine. You do not need to know what data you have or what is possible.
-
We scope it together
We talk through the question, check the data and agree what a useful result looks like and how long it will take.
-
We match a team
We pick volunteers whose skills fit, with an experienced supervisor. Your data is shared only once the right protections are in place.
-
The team gets to work
You hear from us regularly and can steer the work as it develops. No long silences, no surprises.
-
Handover
You receive the findings, the working files and a walkthrough, so your team can keep using what we built.
Care is built in
Charity data is often personal and sensitive. We treat it that way from the very first conversation.
- Every volunteer follows a handbook covering our terms and UK data protection law.
- Every project is supervised from start to finish.
- Volunteers agree to confidentiality before they see any of your data.
- We work in line with UK GDPR.
- Where possible, we ask you to anonymise personal details before sharing data.
- You keep ownership of your data and of everything we produce for you.
Is Data4Good right for us?
We support UK charities and non-profits of all sizes, with a focus on those who would not otherwise be able to afford data help.
- A registered UK charity, community interest company or similar non-profit.
- A clear question or area you want to understand, even if it is rough.
- Access to some data, in any format, even if it is messy.
- A named contact who can reply to the team during the project.
Free for small charities
Our volunteers give their time freely, and our sponsors help cover the costs of running the programme, so support is free for small charities. Larger organisations may be asked to contribute towards the cost of a project. We will always agree this with you before any work starts, so there are no surprises.
Tell us what you want to understand
Fill in the form below. It takes a few minutes and you do not need technical language. We review requests in batches, and we aim to reply within five working days.
- No technical knowledge needed
- No obligation — it starts with a conversation
- Please don’t include personal data about the people you support
Request received
Thank you. We’ll read your request carefully and get back to you to arrange a first conversation. Keep an eye on your inbox (and your spam folder, just in case).
How much does it cost for a charity to get data help from Data4Good?
Support is free for small charities. Our volunteers give their time and partners and sponsors fund the wider programme. Larger organisations may be asked to contribute towards the cost of a project, and we always agree this before any work starts. To ask for help, complete the support request form.
What kind of data help can a charity ask for?
Charities can ask for help with things like cleaning and organising data, analysing surveys or service data, building dashboards, measuring impact and preparing evidence for funding bids. You can ask for a one-off project, ongoing support or a data challenge. The support request form lets you describe what you need.
Does my charity need to be registered?
No, you do not need to be a registered charity. Registered charities, community groups and other non-profits can all ask for help. The form has an optional field for your charity number if you have one, which helps us understand your organisation.
How do I request support for my charity?
Fill in the support request form on our charities page with your name, email, organisation and a description of what you need. We will review it and get back to you. The more detail you give about your data and your goals, the better we can match you.
Who looks after my charity’s data during a project?
Your charity remains in control of its data. Volunteers work in supervised teams and are expected to follow our data protection rules and to handle any data you share carefully. We will agree with you what data is shared and how before work starts.
How quickly will I hear back after sending a request?
We aim to reply to charity requests within a few working days. We then talk through your needs and, if the project is a good fit, match you with a volunteer team as places allow. Volunteer capacity is currently limited, so some projects may start later.
